Key Stage 2 (KS2) covers the academic year 3, 4, 5 and 6. Children are aged between 7 and 11 years old. The children’s progress is tracked using the National Curriculum levels which are then reported to the Local Authority at the end of year 6. Children in year 6 take the Statutory Attainment Tests (SAT’s) in Mathematics, Reading and Spelling and Grammar.
Children in KS2 at West Alvington are taught by two dedicated and inspirational teachers. They are supported by a Teaching Assistant in the mornings. Each child is carefully planned for, challenged and supported to achieve their best. End of KS2 results at West Alvington are well above the national average.
The children have a mathematics and English lesson every day which follows the National Framework set out by the DfE. The children are encouraged to work in a variety of groupings and in different ways so as to develop their learning skills to the maximum.
Each term, the children study a geography or history based topic which is linked to their literacy, art and music lessons. They follow the National Curriculum for science in a weekly science lesson that is highly practical, challenging and engaging.
The children have two PE lessons a week that is supplemented active playtimes and sport clubs.
